Details: The Buick is in remarkable shape for its age and it runs incredibly well. The engine is clean, and the car just got new tires a few months ago. The drive is smooth and easy, and the interior is very spacious. Red leather seats and covers in the front. Comes with a new radio unit that has ipod capabilities and plays cds as well. Since the car is now more than 20 years old it is considered a classic. Inspection is current and good through September 2012 and the oil is fresh. The car also just got new air filters. The mileage is 121,693. There are some aesthetic issues in the form of small dimples on the body, but other than that the paint is still beautiful and there is no problem on the body. As with most older cars, the ceiling fabric has started to sag, but it is currently pinned up and secure. Some of the electrical system is starting to die however. The drivers side seat no longer moves backward and forward and the trunk latches but does not pull completely shut. Other than those few problems the car is in perfect working order. I then purchased an unmolested 1987 T-Type from New York that had rust issues, but with only 78,000 miles on the odometer and used that car´s engine as a donor for the Grand National. It was, of course, a 109 block and with the exception of a chip and an adjustable wastegate the motor is bone stock. The car is well optioned, reference the picture of the RPO on the trunk lid. As you can see the car shows very well with the exception on some paint blistering limited to the driverside quarter panel where it had been exposed to the sun while it was parked for the last six years. The car has the 16´ GNX style wheels with recently replaced new tires and a Pennsylvania inspection. The interior is in remarkably good condition for a car of this age. It and the Roadmaster were replaced by the new Electra in 1959.When introduced in 1940 the new Super featured the cutting-edge ´torpedo´ C-body. The new C-body that the 1940 Buick Super shared with the Roadmaster, the Cadillac Series 62, the Oldsmobile Series 90, and the Pontiac Torpedo featured shoulder and hip room that was over 5´ wider, the elimination of running boards and exterior styling that was streamlined and 2-3´ lower. When combined with a column mounted shift lever the cars offered true six passenger comfort. These changes had clearly been influenced by the Cadillac Sixty Special.The basic formula for the 1940 to 1952 Super was established by mating the Buick Roadmaster´s longer behind the engine cowl body to the Buick Special´s smaller straight-eight engine (and consequently shorter engine compartment). This led to an economical combination of voluminous passenger room and relatively good fuel economy.The 1950 Super came with a single two-barrel carburetor on a 263 cid I8. This setup produced an 112 hp (84 kW). The car was able to achieve speeds over 90 miles per hour (140 km/h) with its Dynaflow automatic transmission which, rather than changing through gears, used the torque converter to couple the motor to a single gear ratio. The car had 2 splits in the back glass although the windshield was a curved one-piece glass. Models also came with an AM radio and an antenna that could be adjusted via a knob in the front center above the windshield. In the June 1953 Popular Mechanics, acceleration was rated at 0-60 mph in 14.5 seconds.[6]The Super was just behind the Roadmaster in Buick´s model lineup, the main distinction being Roadmaster´s larger and more powerful engine. The Super is still an excellent example of the ushering in of the ´50s. Restored models can command high prices on the auction block. The Super name has been resurrected on the new special-edition LaCrosse and Lucerne models.´This 1950 Buick Super is an as/is sale. It has been garage stored for the last few years, but was recently taken out of the garage for the picture shoot. With a little work, this car could be driven, as it was just a few short years ago.
